“Who are you?” Sonic asked, though something about this hedgehog seemed familiar.
The black hedgehog looked up with sad red eyes. “I’m Shadow the Hedgehog. I was part of Project Shadow, and I’ve been lost in this forest for days.”

Shadow smiled his first real smile in a long time. “Would you like to be my friends? I promise I’ll always be there when you need me.”
“Of course!” all three friends said together.
As Shadow walked across the light bridge toward home, he waved goodbye, knowing he would see his new friends again soon. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles watched until the light faded, feeling thrilled that they had helped someone and made a new friend.
